Jude looks so much like his daddy. It makes me smile to see his daddy when I look at his cute little face.

As some of you already know, when Jude was about 6 days old, we had Dawn Fry, of Dawn’s Little Moment’s Photography, come to the house and take newborn pictures of him. It was a really fun experience getting to see her set up all the equipment in the house. Although, it was incredibly hot since we turned off the air so the baby would be comfortable in his “nekkid” pictures. Of course, with all those postpartum hormones, I was sweating like crazy.

Jude must have loved being photographed because he decided to poop and pee (twice) on her props. But, ’tis the nature of babies, right? Dawn had a lot of great ideas for different shots, and also just took pictures of us talking to Jude. After a three hour photo session (well, you do have to feed a newborn at some point) I think we came out with a lot of winners.

Yesterday, I received the prints in the mail and they came in a beautiful purple photo box with a lovely note. We are so pleased at how they turned out. I can’t wait to frame them and hang them in the house. She also gave me some picture files on a cd, since I told her I wanted to post a few on the blog. It was a joy work with Dawn and we are so thankful that she came out to the house to do the session…if definitely made things easier on us. If anyone is interested, she wrote about the session on her photo blog and you can read about it from her perspective and also see more pictures.

Today Jude is one month old. So far, here are some of his milestones:

  • He has gone through approximately 300 diapers
  • He can now start to wear his 0-3 month clothes
  • His thighs are getting so chunky, which I find adorable
  • He has scratched me about 100 times before I finally had a chance to clip those nails on Baby Scissorhands
  • He has kicked Liam once which scared the living daylights out of the poor dog
  • We’ve tried Gripewater and Mylicon to help during what we like to call “crazy time” with varying levels of success
  • We’ve just stopped and looked at him at least a million times, just in awe of all of him

Here are some cute pictures of him over the past month so you can get your Jude fix.

Today Jude is three weeks old. It seems like so much has happened in 21 days. Our boy can officially start wearing some of his 0-3 month clothes now, instead of just the three newborn outfits that he fit in. So here he is wearing the cute gnome footie pajamas from Aunt Courtney (because here at the Mitchell house, we get up, take baths/showers, and put pajamas on). I do have to say, today was the first day that Jude actually liked his bath or at least didn’t arch his back and scream the whole time. We are charting new territory here!

So, Joe and I have talked about the possibility of using cloth diapers, if not exclusively, then at least in conjunction with our disposable diapers. If you have ever googled “cloth diapers” then you will know that there is a lot of information out there and lots of choices these days. My friend, Jessica, cloth diapers and has written about it on her blog. But, I’ve been more motivated the past few days because Jude has horrible diaper rash on his inner thighs due to the elastic of the diapers rubbing on him. I already have mom guilt for letting that happen, but being a novice mom, things like that are going to happen. So, I hear that cloth diapers are much gentler on baby’s skin.

So, I wanted to start with gDiapers, which are flushable diapers. That’s right folks, flushable. They’ve gotten mixed reviews on the internet, but the starter kit is only $25 and you can pick it up at HEB, so that was my main motivation for starting there. I was just worried about making a big financial investment of the higher end cloth diapers and deciding it was not for us.

But, then I found this on the internet at Baby Cheapskate. Jillian’s Drawers has a program where for $10 (plus a $115 deposit) they will send you their top 5 cloth diaper products to try for 21 days. Then you mail them back and get your deposit back. So, I think I would like to try that next to see if cloth diapering is for us.

So, if you’ve been thinking about cloth diapers, too, you should go over to Baby Cheapskate and enter their drawing for 12 free bumgenius diapers. All you have to do is post a link to the contest and you get an entry.

Today was Jude’s due date. Obviously, he decided to make his appearance 6 days earlier. It’s been an amazing, whirlwind week. Family has come and since gone. Many hugs and kisses and pictures. Some sleep some where in there. Here are some pictures of what we have been up to lately:

Here are some pictures of Jude’s first couple of days home. I plan on writing up his birth story, but I want to sit down and be able to write everything, so that may take a while.

I couldn’t resist marking the birth of our baby-Beatle boy, Jude, with any other title.

He weighed 7 lbs.
Mom & Dad both fell in love with him instantly.

More details and pictures once we get home.

Wednesday, June 9th: We are home now. Here are some pictures to share. By the way, Jude was born on Ringo Starr’s birthday. Gotta love that. I’ll write up a birth story and post more pictures once we’ve all had more sleep and more food.
