Christy in Ms. Rowley's 5th grade class

Nerd-ville! I look at this picture and I just don’t remember seeing that girl in the mirror. Check out my sponge painted t-shirt. My sister made it for me. I’ve got it pulled to the side over my kicky little denim skirt. What’s funny, though, after examining this picture closely, is that my hands look the same. 19 years later…EXACT same hands.

It used to be that everyone we know (practically) has an April birthday. But, it looks like July is closing in on that spot. Two of my friends had babies within the last 10 days. In addition to Jude, Joe, and and one of Joe’s nephews, July is also the birth month of THE TIA SARA…number 1 commenter on House and Gnome.

Today is Tia Sara’s birthday. We hope that she has a fabulous day, that everything goes her way, and all her wildest dreams come true. We hope she doesn’t mind this old throwback picture to remind her of our trip to Vegas together eight years ago. That was a fun trip…if I only had pictures of that Elvis impersonator and the Rainforest Cafe…memories!

Today is my friend, Courtney’s birthday.  Courtney is my oldest friend. We met at a slumber party in the 6th grade, even though we went to different schools. The next year, we started 7th grade at the same middle school, and we’ve been friends ever since. Courtney also introduced me to Joe, and we are her most successful match, to date.

The great thing about knowing someone for so long, is that you have such a shared history and many good times together. The downside: apparently your friends never forgot all the nerdy things you said and horrible clothes you wore. But, I love her nonetheless.  Courtney and I always said that we will be friends even in our old age,  just like the golden girls.

I love that Courtney and I are both left-handed Tauri (Taureses??) with Type A personalities, addiction to garden gnomes, and a strong need to get “hot mamma” haircuts. I hope she has a fabulous birthday, and enjoys being older than me for the next 3 weeks!

Today is my sister’s birthday. We wish that we didn’t live so far apart so that we could celebrate with her today.  Although if we did live closer, she would no doubt tell Jude all of my embarrassing stories, such as when I tried to have a yard sale and in front of our house and one of my items was an opened box of pads, or how I peed on her head when we lived in the apartments (which I still deny). But, I would tell Jude that Aunt Missy knocked out one of my teeth, made me practice balancing the Webster’s Dictionary on my head, and was a very strict teacher when we played school. But, I love her nonetheless!!

We hope that Aunt Missy has a wonderful day. We love her so much!

Yep, we met him.

Yep, we met him.

Yep, found this old picture of me when I was at UT. This was from my sophmore year. My roomate, Eugenie, and I were on the Distinguished Speakers Committee of the Texas Union Council. Do you see me?

In the natural ebb and flow of life, relationships begin and relationships end. There are many reasons that cause a road to split in many divergent paths; people grow up, people grow apart, people move away, people move on. This is not about a relationship I had, but one of Joe’s.

He fondly thinks back on the happy days. I remind him there were some not happy moments, but I guess time wipes away the sharp edges and they almost seem comical or quaint. Sometimes when we are going about our errands or on long car trips, he will be reminded and wonder what could have been. I tell him that door is shut and I don’t think anything else would have been. But, I can understand it’s hard to forget a relationship that came upon in a significant period in his life. It certainly wasn’t his first relationship, but in many ways it was the first normal relationship.

Joe and his Jeep.

Joe and his Jeep.

Joe loved  loves that Jeep. We had to traded it when Joe got the Jetta. He was so proud the day he got it. I remember his car had broken, and he borrowed my car to go to San Marcos (SWT) since I could take the bus to UT. I remember I came home and he was like, I bought a car. It really happened that fast. I left one morning and came back and he had a new car.

I have to say, the Jeep was good to us for so many years. But, towards the end the air went out and I had a new car, so we weren’t spending too much time driving around in it. But, I remember the day we traded it in. We washed it one last time (and I had to hold a towel to the window while we went through the drive through car wash, because it leaked). It was so hot driving from SW Austin to Georgetown in August with no air-con. I was so sweaty and gross. Joe really misses that car. I think I was ready to move on.

No doubt, Jude is Joe’s son. I do appreciate however, that my friend Rachel tells me that she sees some of me in Jude. It’s hard for me to see sometimes, because I just see Jude when I look at him. I found this old picture, which I believe is around my first birthday. I have no idea what I am doing, but I can tell you, I’ve seen that exact look in Jude’s eyes before. That is a look of getting in to some sort of trouble. So, he’s got some mommy in him too!

Oh, and check out my dad’s records!

…that Jude really looks a lot like Joe. Joe’s aunt Adriana let me borrow Joe’s 6 month baby picture to scan. So, look compare my hubby dumpling to my baby dumpling; both are celebrating their first Christmas. (Well, it looks like Joe is “celebrating” Christmas at the Sears portrait studio…but it is still his holiday picture).

Sorry, it took us a while to get our act together over here. But, the Mitchell family wanted to wish happy birthday to some people we love a lot.

(Nov. 1st) Happy 6th Birthday, Cousin Kennedy! We wish we could have been there for your costume party.

Well, I am back at work. Last week I only worked Wednesday – Friday part-time. This Monday, I was officially back at work full time. Yowsers! I am so tired and there is so much to do. The kids at school have no concept that I have only been back at work for a few days. They want to know when I am going to get them from class.

Well, just for fun, here is my 2nd grade class picture. The 1986-1987 school year. My teacher was Ms. Pollard and my principal, Mr. Weldon took a picture with every class every year.  Can you guess which little gal is me? Hint: I apparently stretched my skirt over my knees right before the picture. Just for fun, I guess.
