January 31st was our 9th anniversary. We decided to celebrate on the actual day with just a nice family dinner at Moonshine. We went during their happy hour (when all the the appetizers are 1/2 off) and enjoyed a ridiculous amount of food. The best thing we had that day…drumroll please…roasted garlic with goat cheese (plate on the far right). It was so delicious that Joe and I were still talking about it days later. I wanted us to have a special cupcake, so I picked up Mexican vanilla cupcakes from Delish (apparently Mexican vanilla is a hard flavor to find), and tried to make my own rosemary “M” just like our cake topper. I wasn’t wildly successful, but the cupcakes were yummy.

Over the weekend, we went downtown for a grown-up dinner at 2nd Bar + Kitchen. Apparently we just love ordering so many different things, that we over-ordered and were incredibly stuffed by the end of dinner. Three appetizers later, and I really didn’t have room for my actual entree that I ordered. 2nd Bar + Kitchen is known for their buffalo fried pickles, but our favorite appetizer was the black truffle pommes frites.

We walked over to the meet friends at the bar in the Driskill hotel, which has a really cool bar, with tin ceiling panels, deep leather club chairs, fireplaces, and the occasional mounted longhorn head. Joe and I were reminiscing about our wedding, since our reception was downtown. We took a horse drawn carriage to our hotel after the reception and we saw the same carriage company parked outside of the Driskill. We were wondering if Buttercup the horse was still “in the business” and noticed that the horse outside had sparkly hooves. I just had to take a picture. We had a great evening and it was a great way to celebrate our love or as Joe said, “Not getting divorced for 9 years.”
